Chris Pappas for Senate’s Tax Cuts and Lower Costs Blueprint Spotlights Efforts to Make Health Care Affordable
While Big Pharma and Corporate Special Interests Drive Up Costs, Pappas is Working to Lower Health Care Costs for New Hampshire
MANCHESTER, N.H — Today, Congressman Chris Pappas’s campaign for U.S. Senate is rolling out the second plank of its Tax Cuts and Lower Costs Blueprint for New Hampshire to tackle the Republicans’ affordability crisis and address increasing health care costs.
Chris knows that our existing health care system is rigged against everyday Granite Staters as it favors profits for insurance companies and Big Pharma over delivering the care people need to survive. At the same time, Republicans are making the health care crisis worse by cutting Medicaid — leading to rural health center closures across New Hampshire — and eliminating the ACA enhanced premium tax credits, which will force Granite Staters to pay even more for health care.
“Everyone deserves affordable health care, and we’ve got to put people’s health before profits and politics,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “I’m standing up to big pharmaceutical companies to lower drug costs, taking on extreme politicians who want to take away coverage, and working to cut red tape so small businesses can afford a plan. I’ll keep working to build a health care system that puts Granite Staters first.”
Chris believes that quality health care should be affordable and available for every American. Granite Staters shouldn’t be forced to travel hours to see a doctor, only to leave with a bill they can’t afford. Treatment plans should be determined by your doctor, not an insurance company thousands of miles away. And no one should be forced to ration lifesaving medications to pay their bills.
He is running for Senate to stand up to insurance companies and their army of lawyers and lobbyists that indiscriminately deny coverage while reaping record profits. He will work to hold insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies accountable for soaring prices and diminishing care, and he will fight to restore the ACA premium credits Republicans ended.
Taking on Big Pharma and Insurance Companies
Pappas took on Big Pharma to cap insulin costs at $35 per month, allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices, and introduced legislation to end Republican handouts that allow Big Pharma to keep drug prices sky-high.
Now he’s fighting to crack down on big insurance companies and working to stop them from denying patients tests and treatments they need. Pappas believes drug companies should charge Americans the same low prices for drugs as they charge in other countries, and he supports getting low-cost generic drugs to market more quickly.
Fighting Back Against the Trump Administration’s Health Care Cuts
Pappas will fight for affordable health care and to reverse the Trump Administration’s cuts to health care that are raising premiums and causing millions to lose their insurance.
He’s pushing to strengthen the Affordable Care Act by making tax credits permanent, and he’s standing up to Republican efforts to cut funding for Medicare and Medicaid.
Cutting Red Tape and Expanding Access to Affordable Health Care
Pappas understands that Granite Staters need an affordable health care system that works for them, not big corporations. That’s why he’s introduced legislation to cut red tape to make it easier for Granite Staters and small businesses to access health care coverage in the face of insurance companies increasingly denying coverage and reimbursements.
Pappas also introduced legislation to expand access to telehealth services, giving patients the flexibility they need to access care.
Protecting Veterans from Predatory Companies and Expanding VA Services
A member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Pappas will always fight to ensure those who’ve served our country receive the health care benefits they’ve earned. He’s fought to protect veterans from predatory companies, expanded health care coverage for over 3.5 million veterans exposed to toxic substances during their service, and is leading efforts to bring a full-service VA hospital to New Hampshire.
In January, Chris Pappas for Senate launched its Tax Cuts and Lower Costs Blueprint, where Pappas outlined his efforts to address rising energy costs in the Granite State. This month the campaign shifts its focus to highlight what Chris Pappas is doing to address sky-high health care costs. The campaign will spend the next four months showcasing how Chris Pappas will work with anyone to deliver for New Hampshire, and he will take on anyone who makes it harder for Granite Staters to get ahead.
