ICYMI: Pappas Talks “Margin-of-Error” U.S. Senate Race, Affordability on MS NOW’s Way Too Early
MANCHESTER, NH — In case you missed it, today Congressman Chris Pappas joined MS NOW’s Way Too Early with Ali Vitali to discuss his campaign for U.S. Senate, his opponent John Sununu’s recent endorsement from President Trump, and the unchecked chaos ICE and DHS are unleashing in Minneapolis and across the nation.
Watch the full interview here and read key quotes from Congressman Pappas below:
The Constitution is Not an Inconvenience:
“I know, coming from New Hampshire, a very purple state, I see a lot of Republicans who are telling me that this is an overreach. That what they see happening in Minneapolis and across the country is not consistent with our Constitution and our values. Democrats aren’t asking for too much, and the Constitution isn’t an inconvenience. We’ve got to make sure that we’re following the law and the Constitution, and we’re sitting on some basic accountability measures that are lacking right now. As DHS and ICE run roughshod over the Constitution and over the law, Democrats are going to stand up and make sure that our communities actually are safe. We support efforts going after criminals, going after the worst of the worst, but terrorizing communities, dividing Americans in a very cynical, political way, is not how DHS should be operating right now.”
President Trump’s Endorsement of John Sununu:
“We were always planning for a real tough margin-of-error campaign, and that’s exactly what we’ve got right now. But I think the fact that John Sununu is throwing in his lot with Donald Trump makes it pretty clear about what you have to do in the Republican Party to get ahead these days. John Sununu, just as when he was in the Senate the last time, was down the line for George W. Bush. He supported all of the policies that New Hampshire was reacting against, and he was defeated in 2008. So as Sununu embraces things like increased tariffs that are raising costs for New Hampshire families, as he supports cuts to Medicaid, as he is silent on things like pardons for January 6 insurrectionists who beat up cops at the Capitol, it’s clear that he’s going to stand with Donald Trump, and I think the voters of New Hampshire are going to want something different.”
Focusing on Granite Staters’ Priorities:
“We are a very independent state. People want checks and balances. They want an accountable government, and they want someone who’s going to focus on their day-to-day concerns: the high cost of living, housing, health care, child care, and education. Those are the kinds of things we’re going to be talking about in our campaign.”
Chris Pappas is running for U.S. Senate to take on the big fights that matter to Granite Staters. From lowering costs for working families to defending commonsense public safety legislation, Chris will work with anyone to deliver for New Hampshire, and he will take on anyone who makes it harder for Granite Staters to get ahead. Born and raised in Manchester, Chris is grounded in the people, places, and values of New Hampshire.
