Chris Pappas for Senate Highlights Plan to Lower Child Care Costs for Granite State Families

Pappas is Fighting to Lower Costs and Expand Access to Affordable Child Care for Working Families

MANCHESTER, NH — Today, Congressman Chris Pappas’s campaign for U.S. Senate is unveiling the fourth plank of its Tax Cuts and Lower Costs Blueprint for New Hampshire to bring down rising child care costs and expand access to child care services for New Hampshire families. Child care costs continue to skyrocket in New Hampshire amid workforce and provider shortagesforcing many parents to choose between paying an exorbitant amount of money for child care or leaving the workforce altogether.

Chris knows that New Hampshire’s workforce and child care shortages are intertwined and believes that no parent should be forced to choose between paying for child care and paying their mortgage or rent.

“Quality, affordable child care should be accessible for every Granite State family — not a luxury for a select few,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “I’m running for Senate to help ensure that every New Hampshire parent has access to safe, reliable, and affordable care for their children. I’ll keep fighting to support our child care providers so they can keep their doors open, grow their programs, and pay their hardworking employees a sustainable wage, and I’ll continue to stand up to the Trump Administration’s tariffs that are making life simply unaffordable for working families.”

Chris is running for Senate to put Granite Staters first by calling for tax cuts for working families, supporting child care workers, and fighting for expanded child care services — and he’ll continue to take on Trump’s tariffs that are making everyday goods like baby formula too expensive for people who are struggling to make ends meet.

Fighting to Expand the Child Tax Credit and Making Care More Affordable

Across New Hampshire, families face some of the highest child care costs in the country, and the number of available child care slots has struggled to keep pace with demand. In many communities, wait lists stretch months or even years, forcing working parents to scale back their hours or leave the workforce altogether.

Pappas supports expanding tax cuts for working families to help offset the cost of child care by pushing to strengthen the Child Tax Credit so more parents can afford the care they need while raising their families. He supports bipartisan legislation to help child care providers expand operating hours and provide needed flexibility to families working outside of traditional 9-to-5 schedules — including nurses, hospitality workers, and first responders.

Taking on Trump’s Tariffs and Corporate Special Interests Driving Up Costs

Pappas is working to roll back reckless tariffs that are increasing costs of baby and children’s products like car seats, strollers, and clothes for New Hampshire families and he is calling for stronger oversight to protect parents from corporate price gouging.

Making Child Care Accessible

Addressing the New Hampshire affordable child care shortage means supporting the providers and workers who keep these programs running. Across New Hampshire, as costs continue to rise, forcing some providers to close classrooms or limit enrollment, Pappas secured resources to help families afford child care and support small child care providers, especially in rural communities where families often have the fewest options.

In January, Chris Pappas for Senate launched its Tax Cuts and Lower Costs Blueprint, where Pappas outlined his efforts to address rising energy costs in New Hampshire. In February, the campaign highlighted what Pappas is doing to tackle the health care affordability crisis, and in March the campaign spotlighted how Pappas is fighting to lower grocery costs for Granite State families.

This month, the campaign is highlighting how Pappas is working to lower child care costs and expand access for working families across New Hampshire. The campaign will continue showcasing how, in the U.S. Senate, Chris Pappas will work with anyone to deliver for New Hampshire — and take on anyone who makes it harder for Granite Staters to get ahead.
