At AARP Candidate Forum, Chris Pappas Makes it Clear That He Stands With Seniors & Will Always Protect Social Security
MANCHESTER, N.H. — At a candidate forum today hosted by AARP New Hampshire, Chris Pappas made clear that he will always stand with New Hampshire’s seniors and protect Social Security — and he’s the only candidate in the race who will do that.
Chris Pappas’s record stands in stark contrast to Trump-endorsed John Sununu, who led efforts to privatize Social Security and supports President Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that has sped up Social Security’s insolvency timeline, threatening the benefits that hundreds of thousands of Granite Staters rely on. In fact, just a few weeks ago, John Sununu touted his plan to privatize Social Security, and just yesterday he refused to say what he would do to protect the program.

Chris Pappas on Protecting Social Security: “We have to figure out how we prevent drastic cuts from going into effect that would devastate our population in New Hampshire. This not only is a lifeline for seniors, for disabled individuals, but it also is good for New Hampshire’s economy. Cuts to Social Security are unacceptable to me. I will oppose any cuts in benefits because people have paid into this system. They’ve paid in throughout their working years and it’s a benefit that needs to be there for them when they retire.”
Chris Pappas on the Choice in This Race: “Now this is an important choice in the race. Yesterday I had a debate with John Sununu, and he said he was unwilling to talk about his ideas for Social Security because he didn’t want to be attacked in the campaign. He didn’t want to put something on the table that people might oppose. Well, I think we’ve got to be transparent about what we support and what we don’t support. I’m the only candidate who’s clearly saying I don’t support cutting Social Security benefits, that it’s not a solution to shore up the program.”
Chris Pappas on Why He’s Running for Senate: “I’m running for the United States Senate because this is a gut check moment for American democracy, and we need leadership that is going to stand up for what’s right against this broken presidency and focus on how we can lower costs and get this economy working for everyone.”
