ROUNDUP: In A Bizarre Closing Message, John Sununu Tries and Fails to Run Away from Donald Trump
“Do you think that works?” “No”
“He’s been a cheerleader for Trump this entire time”
“[He’s] running away from President Trump, whom he got the endorsement from in the Senate race”
MANCHESTER, N.H. — In an effort to salvage his “flailing” U.S. Senate campaign, Trump-endorsed candidate John Sununu released a desperate new TV ad, where he assures voters that he’s not Donald Trump’s “long lost son” in a bizarre last-ditch effort to rewrite his well-documented record of supporting Donald Trump’s “toxic” agenda.
John Sununu will be a rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s costly policies and even called this race “important to President Trump’s agenda.” Accumulating a record over the course of the campaign of supporting and downplaying the worst parts of President Trump’s agenda — including Trump’s war with Iran, Trump’s tariff taxes, and Trump’s cuts to health care — Sununu’s ad is just the latest sad attempt to run from his record.
The bad news for Sununu is that no one is buying it.
MS NOW: On The Line with Alicia Menendez
10/21/26
- Alicia Menendez: Do you think that works?
- Basil Smikle: No […] but the guy will still take his money, and that’s the challenge, right?
- […]
- Basil Smikle: I don’t think, given where we are today, that the voters are going to mistake him trying to walk the line for the kind of company that he keeps.
10/20/26
- Sawyer Hackett: I think most New Hampshire voters understand that John Sununu did support Trump’s war in Iran. He did support the tariffs before he decided to oppose them on the campaign trail. He supported Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. He’s been a cheerleader for Trump this entire time. And if he wins, he would be a cheerleader for Trump in the Senate, just like every other Republican who’s ever won since Donald Trump has taken office.
CNN: ‘Who’s that guy?’ SE Cupp shocked by Sununu’s ‘blatant’ Trump denial
10/20/26
- SE Cupp: To come out in an ad and say to the camera, “I’ve never even met the guy,” is remarkable. Especially for someone with the last name Sununu, which is just synonymous with Republican politics in New Hampshire. It’s amazing. It is so blatant. “I’ve never even met him. Couldn’t pick him out of a lineup. Who is that guy?”
MS Now: The Briefing with Jen Psaki
10/20/26
- Jen Psaki: “Never even met the man.” Barely heard of him. President of the United States. Now, anyone who knows anything about Trump can tell you that “I’ve never even met the man” is basically Trump speak for “that guy is so toxic.”
The Pulse of New Hampshire: Good Morning New Hampshire with Jack Heath
10/21/26
- Jack Heath: [Sununu’s] running away from President Trump, whom he got the endorsement from in the Senate race.
