Shaheen, Pappas Highlight the Importance of This Election for Safeguarding Reproductive Rights at Roundtable with Granite State Women

EXETER, NH - Yesterday, Thursday, October 24, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Congressman Chris Pappas, and Stefany Shaheen held a roundtable discussion with Granite Staters in Exeter about the importance of safeguarding a woman’s right to choose and the stakes of this election for reproductive rights.

“This is the United States, people should have the ability to make their own choices, and the government shouldn’t be interfering in these private, personal decisions. This is about freedom versus control, and the folks who brought us the Dobbs decision and are proposing national abortion bans want government control over people’s personal lives. We want the government to get out of the way, and for women and families and doctors to be able to make these decisions. That’s what’s at stake in this election. We’re going to fight hard over the next twelve days to ensure the people of New Hampshire have pro-choice representation,” said Congressman Chris Pappas.

“Now, my daughters and my granddaughters have fewer freedoms than we had at their age. I am comforted to know that we have people like Chris Pappas who are in Congress and who are always doing the right thing for reproductive rights and women’s health care. This is the Live Free or Die state. We believe that women and families and health care providers ought to make these very personal decisions,” said U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

I got asked a lot about why I chose to share my story. No one needed to share their stories when Roe v. Wade was the law of the land, because we were guaranteed protections. My daughter is the same age now as I was when she was born, and she has fewer protections now than I did. That’s unacceptable,” said Stefany Shaheen.

At the roundtable, Senator Shaheen and Congressman Pappas, joined by Stefany Shaheen, State Senator Debra Altschiller, and State Representative Alexis Simpson, spoke about the importance of reproductive health care and the critical need for protections for a woman’s right to choose. Congressman Pappas and Senator Shaheen laid out the stakes of this election for reproductive rights, and charted the path forward for passing the Women’s Health Protection Act and other legislation to safeguard a woman’s right to choose in New Hampshire and across the country.
