ICYMI: Ahead of Filing to Run for U.S. Senate, Chris Pappas Emphasizes NH First Approach, Efforts to Lower Costs on New Hampshire Radio
MANCHESTER, N.H. — In case you missed it, Congressman Chris Pappas joined WGIR’s New Hampshire Today and the Pulse of New Hampshire’s Good Morning NH this morning before filing his candidacy for U.S. Senate in Concord. In both interviews, Pappas underscored his Granite State roots, discussed what he’s doing to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, and highlighted his Anti-Corruption Agenda to take on corporate special interests and make Washington work for everyday Americans.
Read excerpts from the interviews below:
Why Chris is Running for U.S. Senate
- PAPPAS: “What I’m finding is that people really want to be engaged in the conversation this year, they want to talk about what’s going on in their own lives, their own circumstances. They want someone who knows our state, knows our values, and who’s going to be willing to put it back for us against the corporate special interests that have far too much power in Washington, D.C. So today’s a day full of excitement and energy, but we have a lot of work to do over the next five months.”
- PAPPAS: “People here know me, they know my track record, you know me as a community member who really cares about what’s going on in this state and has a strong track record of taking on big fights, challenging corporate special interests in Washington, and working to get stuff done, and I’m proud of the record that I have, whether it’s defending personal freedoms, ensuring that we’re investing in our infrastructure, expanding care for veterans, making sure that New Hampshire continues to be a good place to call home. So, I’ll take that record and stack that up against anyone else out there.”
Americans are Paying for Trump’s War of Choice in Iran
- PAPPAS: “The fact is, Americans are paying a steep price for this war right now at the gas pump, and higher costs across the board that are created as a result of a ripple effect, because of this engagement, and the way the global energy markets have been sent into a tailspin. So, Americans are paying the price, they are having a hard time seeing how this is making our country safer.”
Trump’s Costly Tariffs are Increasing Costs on Everyday Necessities
- PAPPAS: “I think there’s some frustration with tariffs out there that is adding to the price tag of things in grocery aisles and all the things that we need for our day to day lives, and so you know, people are, I think, pretty clear that we’ve got to focus on affordability and economic fairness and supporting good paying jobs, building more housing through New Hampshire, but they’re not seeing progress, and that’s where I think we need people that are really in touch with what’s going on out there in New Hampshire.”
Pappas is Among the Most Bipartisan Members of Congress
- PAPPAS: “In order to take on big challenges and to figure out how we come together and solve problems, you have to work on building relationships, and you have to work on reforming a system that isn’t set up for the kind of success that we deserve in this country. There are so many big issues, from social security to dealing with technology and AI in a way that our economy is rapidly changing, and Americans have a stake in that. And we have to figure out how our leadership is able to come to the table and grapple with tough challenges and do right by our constituents.”
- PAPPAS: “It takes people that are dedicated to the proposition that their party doesn’t have all the answers. The solutions are found somewhere in the middle. I’m known as one of the most bipartisan members of the House, that’s, I think, due in large part to the culture that we have here in the Granite State. In my background is a local business owner, and those are some of the skills that I want to take to the table to help change Washington and work on some of these tough challenges.”
Cracking Down on Trump Admin Corruption
- PAPPAS: “Think about this $1.8 billion slush fund that they sought to create to take care of political allies. The efforts to give sweetheart contracts to companies that Donald Trump is close with. The fact that his net worth has gone up by billions of dollars, and his family members are cutting deals all around the world, while they’re also traveling on the American tax payer’s dime. This stuff needs to be looked at, and we need to make sure that the government of the United States is working in the best interest of the people.”
- PAPPAS: “I’m fighting to pass a stock trading ban for members of the House and Senate. Making sure that no one’s participating in these prediction markets where they can have inside information and be padding their bottom line. I introduced an Anti-Corruption Agenda last week, and I’m very serious about ensuring that we’re changing the way Washington works. The leadership in both parties doesn’t like a lot of these provisions because they’re happy with the way that things are, and we have to be changing things, so ultimately we can get down to the business of making progress on the things that actually count.”
