ICYMI: Pappas Discusses Trump Tariffs, Iran War Driving Up Costs for Nashua Florist

NASHUA, N.H. — In case you missed it, Congressman Chris Pappas recently visited Fortin Gage Flowers in Nashua to discuss how Donald Trump’s costly tariff policies are driving up prices on vases, planters, tulips and more — all while Trump’s war of choice in Iran is driving up fuel prices and making it harder for Main Street to get by.

“Granite State businesses like Fortin Gage Flower Shop are having real trouble navigating these tariffs which have raised costs for businesses and consumers,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “I’m fighting to exempt small businesses and to overturn Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs that are weighing down our economy and creating so much uncertainty. We must focus on supporting our Main Street small businesses, lowering costs, and building a fair economy.”

“Fortin Gage Flowers is a 95-year-old flower shop right here in the heart of downtown Nashua. I’m a small business owner and in New Hampshire, small businesses are the largest employer in the whole state.” said Amber Morgan, Nashua Alderman-at-Large and owner of Fortin Gage Flowers. “Congressman Pappas understands what it’s like for small business owners and the battles that we’re fighting every single day and the ones we shouldn’t be fighting, like tariffs and increased gas prices.”

Last week, President Trump doubled down on his costly tariff policies announcing new 50% tariffs on some Canadian products when Granite State businesses are already feeling the squeeze from his global trade war. Meanwhile, New Hampshire gas prices remain above four dollars a gallon on average and continue to climb as a result of Trump’s war of choice in Iran.

While Trump’s policies are making it harder for Main Street businesses to get by, Chris Pappas is fighting to deliver relief. Pappas is leading efforts to exempt New Hampshire small businesses from global baseline and reciprocal tariffs and provide refunds to those already paying the price for Trump’s trade war. He’s championed the CANADA Act to protect small businesses from harmful tariffs on one of New Hampshire’s most important trading partners. 

Pappas is also leading the effort to suspend the federal gas tax through October, providing immediate and desperately needed relief at the pump while ensuring that relief is passed on to consumers, not put back in the pockets of the big oil companies.
