As New Tariffs on Canada Take Effect, Pappas Stands With Small Businesses While Sununu Stands With Trump

MANCHESTER, N.H. — As new tariffs on Canada take effect and are already hurting New Hampshire small businesses, Congressman Chris Pappas is calling on Donald Trump to abandon his costly tariff taxes while his likely Republican opponent John Sununu stands with Trump.

Pappas is leading efforts in Congress to provide relief to New Hampshire. His Small Business RELIEF Act would exempt New Hampshire small businesses from global baseline and reciprocal tariffs and issue refunds to those that have already been forced to shoulder the costs of Washington’s trade war. He also championed the CANADA Act, which would protect U.S.-owned small businesses from tariffs imposed on Canada, protecting New Hampshire’s economy and preserving the cross-border commerce that so many Granite State businesses depend on.

Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate, former Senator John Sununu, has backed the president’s tariff taxes saying “I completely understand what [Trump’s] trying to accomplish,” and claiming their economic impact “has been very modest, certainly hasn’t impacted inflation directly in any significant way.”

Meanwhile, Sununu’s “large holdings of stock in food and retail giants”, as well as his investments in Big Oil companies like Exxon Mobil and Shell, have helped him personally profit while Granite Staters and local small businesses struggle to keep up with rising costs.
