On Anniversary of Social Security, Chris Pappas’s Record Proves He is the Candidate That Will Protect Granite Staters’ Hard-Earned Benefits

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Today marks 91 years since Social Security was signed into law, a promise that after a lifetime of hard work, Americans can count on the benefits they earned. Hundreds of thousands of Granite Staters rely on Social Security to retire with dignity and make ends meet.

“Social Security is an essential promise that your hard-earned benefits will be there for you after a lifetime of work,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “We’ve got to make sure that all Granite Staters can retire with dignity and that our next senator will defend the program and fight against efforts to slash benefits. I have always worked to protect and expand Social Security, and I’ll take that fight to the U.S. Senate.”

Pappas’s likely Republican opponent, Trump-endorsed John Sununu, has a record of leading efforts to privatize the program and gamble Granite Staters’ retirement security on Wall Street. In Washington, Sununu would be another rubber stamp for Trump’s toxic agenda that includes trying to dismantle essential programs that millions of Americans rely on.

Pappas will never vote to cut benefits or move the goalposts for our seniors. He’s seen firsthand how much Granite Staters depend on Social Security, meeting with seniors and advocates across New Hampshire and hearing directly about the difference these earned benefits make in their lives — and his record proves he will always fight to protect Social Security.

  • Pappas led House and Senate Democrats in a letter demanding the Republican majority in Washington commit to protecting social security.
  • Pappas cosponsored the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act, which restored full retirement benefits for teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants.
  • Pappas fought against the Trump Administration’s efforts to gut the Social Security Administration, fire staff, and close field offices, including an office in Littleton, New Hampshire.
  • Pappas’s campaign for U.S. Senate has been endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare PAC, a leading national organization dedicated to protecting Social Security and Medicare.

On the 91st anniversary of Social Security, Granite Staters know where Chris Pappas stands: he will protect the benefits they have earned and fight to ensure Social Security is there for generations to come. That’s why New Hampshire voters will send Chris Pappas to the U.S. Senate this November.
