ICYMI: Chris Pappas Discusses the Trump-Sununu Agenda Making Life More Expensive On The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell

MANCHESTER, N.H. — In case you missed it, Congressman Chris Pappas joined host Lawrence O’Donnell on MS NOW’s The Last Word to discuss how the Trump-Sununu Agenda is making life more expensive for Granite Staters and the importance of New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate race.

Chris Pappas is running for Senate to lower costs for New Hampshire families and small businesses and create a freer, fairer future for Granite Staters. Trump-endorsed candidate John Sununu said he is running for Senate because this race is “important to President Trump’s agenda,” and he supports and has downplayed the worst parts of that agenda — including Trump’s war with Iran, Trump’s tariff taxes, and Trump’s cuts to health care.

On The Trump-Sununu Agenda Making Life More Expensive

  • “No one thinks this is a golden age, or that life is any easier right now, and the fact is, the total is around $5,000 per household if you take into consideration the inflation that Donald Trump has spurred through his reckless war, through the increase of gas prices, everything that’s gone on during this administration, in addition to the tariffs. So life is getting harder, and folks have this feeling that just, the [Trump] administration is saying the quiet part out loud about his agenda. Affordability is a hoax. He doesn’t even think he has to listen to the American people.”
  • “There are candidates like my opponent, John Sununu, that are going to be a rubber stamp to continue these policies that are making life more expensive and worse. So we’ve got to straighten this out, and the only way we do that is to flip the majority in the Senate and focus on affordability, how we build a fair economy, how we invest in things like housing and healthcare and childcare.”

On Donald Trump’s Broken Promises

  • “Voters here remember the promises Donald Trump made in the last campaign to deliver world peace on day one and to end inflation. They’ve heard him talk about dividends for DOGE and paybacks for tariffs, but at the end of the day, people just want a focus on their issues.”
  • “I talked to a small business owner a few days ago who told me, ‘as hard as it was during COVID, at least I knew the government had my back. But right now, the federal government is working against me.’ I heard that again from a manufacturer today that I visited with, who said prices are through the roof for all the inputs they need. They’re employing American workers making things in the United States, and their business is falling off.”

On the Choice Between Change and A Rubber Stamp for the Trump-Sununu Agenda

  • “My opponent in this race, John Sununu, says that his race is important for Donald Trump’s agenda in Washington, and I agree with him on that fact. The fact is, if Republicans win this Senate seat in New Hampshire, if Sununu is elected, that means they’re likely going to retain their majority, and Trump will go for the next two years without any guardrails. And we saw in the U.S. Senate today why we need change in Washington. So we’re fighting to deliver that here in New Hampshire and win this tough race.”
