ICYMI: Pappas Talks Stakes of NH’s Toss-Up Senate Race, Sununu’s MAGA Backers, Plans to Lower Costs on Boston 25
MANCHESTER, N.H. — In case you missed it, Congressman Chris Pappas recently joined Boston 25’s Kerry Kavanaugh to discuss the stakes of New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate race, getting dark money out of politics, and his efforts to lower costs for Granite Staters.
Chris Pappas is running for Senate to lower costs for New Hampshire families and small businesses and create a freer, fairer future for Granite Staters. Trump-endorsed candidate John Sununu said he is running for Senate because this race is “important to President Trump’s agenda,” and he supports and has downplayed the worst parts of that agenda — including Trump’s war with Iran, Trump’s tariff taxes, and Trump’s cuts to health care.

On the Stakes of the Election and Building a Freer, Fairer Future
- “The fact is [voters] know that Donald Trump’s leadership is making life more expensive. The war, the health care cuts, the tariffs, the high gas prices — it’s all too much for working families and middle-class families in New Hampshire. So that’s the message I’m hearing out there. We are working to stand up to this administration to bring change to Washington to get stuff done and get this economy working for everyone. But this is a closely divided state, so until the last votes cast on November 3rd, this is going to be a toss-up and a hard-fought race.”
- “Despite all the chaos coming out of Washington D.C. we can choose a better path. We can create opportunities for people to get access to affordable housing, to expand access to health care, to make sure our small business climate is healthy and successful. We’ve got a lot of work to do on those fronts, but this campaign can be determinative of where we go for the future.”
On His Immediate Plans to Lower Costs for Granite Staters
- “Stop the war. Lower gas prices. Build more homes. Expand access to health care. Restore the cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act that went through last year. And just make sure we’re putting the needs of working families in the middle class front and center. Instead of giving big tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations, let’s invest in the middle class, in things like housing and child care, that will grow the economic pie and provide some relief to folks who need it.”
On Getting Dark Money Out of Politics
- “We’ve got to fight to get big money out of our politics and change our campaign finance system. That’s why I don’t take corporate PAC money, and I’ve got legislation to unmask these dark money groups, so we at least know who’s trying to influence our votes. We need to overturn the Citizens United decision. Those are some of the things we can get done if we change the majority in Washington.”
- “There’s a lot of big money supporting John Sununu in this race, it’s coming from Donald Trump, from Elon Musk, from corporate special interests that know he’s going to be a vote for their agenda. The fact is Donald Trump’s trying to hang on to power in the U.S. Senate. We’re fighting to change things, and so the money is going to continue to show up on the other side. But we’ve been putting in a lot of shoe leather. […] This is an election that should be about change and building a fairer economy, confronting unchecked power in Washington, and I’m hopeful about where New Hampshire is going to come down on that front.”
