ICYMI: As Housing Costs Reach Record Highs, Pappas Has a Plan to Lower Costs

MANCHESTER, N.H. — In case you missed it, a recent analysis by NHPR revealed that the median price of a single-family home in New Hampshire has reached a record high of $576,000. Housing costs are expected to continue rising, putting the dream of homeownership further out of reach for working families and first-time homebuyers across the Granite State.

Congressman Chris Pappas is running for U.S Senate to lower costs for Granite Staters, and he knows that hardworking families should not be priced out of the communities where they want to live and work. That’s why he’s championed legislation to combat the housing crisis in New Hampshire by expanding affordable housing, increasing housing supply, and helping first-time homebuyers get ahead.

In May, Chris Pappas for Senate launched the fifth plank of its Tax Cuts and Lower Costs Blueprint for New Hampshire, focused on tackling the Republicans’ affordability crisis and addressing the rising cost of housing. The plan is centered around three key priorities:

  • Supporting first time homebuyers and current homeowners: Chris co-sponsored the First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit Act, which would help first time homebuyers afford a down payment, and is a lead sponsor of the Property Improvement and Manufactured Housing Loan Modernization Act, which would increase loan limits for manufactured housing and ensure property improvement loans can be used for constructing accessory dwelling units.
  • Ending veteran homelessness: Chris stood up to the Trump Administration when it threatened VA home loans for military families and introduced legislation to better inform veterans of opportunities provided by the VA Home Loan program so that they can access the benefits they’ve earned.

Chris Pappas is committed to ensuring that New Hampshire remains one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family. He doesn’t take corporate PAC money and has built a record of standing up to special interests to deliver for Granite Staters. In the Senate, he will continue fighting to lower costs, expand housing opportunities, and make the dream of homeownership more attainable for families across New Hampshire.
